Scenes From A (Queer) Marriage

I started this project in response to the cultural conversation I was hearing in early June of 2022 that “if Roe is struck down, gay marriage will be next.” This was my call to action to share the stories of married queer people who are close to me to show just how important this issue is to us. Having the right to marry allows the security to build a life together with the person we love and to not only have equal rights under the law, but equal recognition amongst all people in this nation. It means our love is valid, and deserving of respect.

They say you can judge a person by the company they keep, and these members of my chosen family who have committed themselves to their partnerships have experiences and perspectives comparable to my own. We don’t speak for all queer people, but I hope that this view into our lives will show the beauty of our experience, and the significance of exercising the right to marry the person we love.

The personal information about the people in this project was inputted in 2022 and reflects their ages and years married as of then.
